National Harm Reduction Coalition (NHRC) is thrilled to launch more free virtual learning sessions! We hope you'll join us for our upcoming sessions this month and in March, hosted in collaboration with the Opioid Response Network (ORN). The sessions will cover trauma-informed care as well as the interconnectedness of harm reduction, homelessness, domestic violence, and mental health.

The first session in the series kicks off on Wednesday, February 26, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET. The "Working at the Intersection of Harm Reduction, Homelessness, and Domestic Violence" session will explore how sexual and intimate partner violence intersects with the experience of being unhoused and/or using substances. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss how applying a harm reduction and trauma-informed framework to their work with survivors can support their empowerment, well-being, and self efficacy. The second session, "Trauma-Informed Care," is happening Wednesday, March 12, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. ET. This training is designed primarily for service providers without formal mental health training and will provide an overview of trauma and mental health issues, roots of trauma, and how harm reduction can be a tool/framework that can help us as practitioners understand and unpack the way trauma impacts our participants' lives and our work. We’ll discuss case examples highlighting realistic expectations and effective responses with particular attention to people with co-occurring disorders (mental illness and substance use) in the context of harm reduction programs and settings.
