There are no kings in America. We are a government for the people, by the people and of the people.

Yet Donald Trump doesn’t seem to understand this. This week, Donald Trump used his official White House social media account to post a photo of himself wearing a crown with the caption “LONG LIVE THE KING!”

You know, America once fought a pretty famous war to escape the tyranny of a greedy, lawless king. Several of my ancestors fought in that war—and someone in my family has served in every period of conflict since then, because we believe so deeply in the freedoms our country was founded upon, and that everyone deserves to have a say in their government.

We did it in service to a democracy, not to a king who rules by fiat.

It’s also why last year, after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of giving Donald Trump broad immunity for criminal actions, I co-introduced the No Kings Act.

So believe me, I’m not just going to sit back and let our country slip back into monarchy and authoritarianism.

It should not be controversial to say that in the United States of America, we do not have kings.

Team, Donald Trump is doing everything in his power to subvert every lever of our government so that he won’t be held accountable for his actions.

He’s taking a sledgehammer to the federal government, and we know he’s already stacked the Supreme Court.

That means Congress is going to be our last line of defense against Trump’s attacks on our rights and our democracy itself.

I will never back down from protecting the democracy my family and I have fought for. But I can’t do it alone. Will you chip in $ASK to join me in protecting our democracy from Donald Trump?
