Have you heard of the “SAVE Act?” It’s a dangerous new bill crafted by extremist Republicans in Congress, designed to suppress the vote with absurd and extreme voter ID requirement.

It’s no coincidence that this bill is being pushed ahead of the 2026 midterms. With Democrats poised to win back at least one chamber of Congress, Republicans are rushing to pass this bill and silence the voice of millions across the country.

Friend, the SAVE Act would require ALL American voters registering to vote OR updating their registration to provide a passport or birth certificate. Most driver’s licenses, as well as military or tribal IDs, wouldn’t count.

Nearly 150 million Americans do not have a valid passport. And according to reports, 84% of married women, or approximately 69 million women, changed their last names when they married—meaning their birth certificate wouldn’t prove their citizenship under this bill.

This bill also targets low-income Americans, only 1 in 5 of whom have a valid passport.

Friend , Texas is no stranger to voter suppression bills like these. As a result of Texas’s extreme voter suppression laws, our state consistently ranks at the bottom of voter participation in every election. And let me be clear: that’s by design.
