Congress: Get the Lead Out of Our Water!

There is no safe level of lead in drinking water, yet millions of families in the U.S. drink lead-contaminated water every day. And right now, Republican leaders in Congress are attacking a Biden rule that would replace lead service pipes over the next decade. From Allentown, PA, to Bernardsville, NJ, to Majopac, NY, Food & Water Watch rallied to demand that lawmakers put our health first. In the next few months, we’ll continue pushing representatives to reject any efforts to repeal this Lead Out of Water Rule!

Saying No to Nuclear at the New York State CapitolIn her 2025 State of the State address, Governor Kathy Hochul embraced dirty nuclear power in New York. But we know that nuclear energy is expensive, dangerous, and a false solution to climate change. We rallied outside the State of the State, distributing flyers to state lawmakers urging them to oppose these plans and fight for real affordable, clean energy solutions. Victory! FDA bans cancer-causing red food dyeRed Dye No. 3 has been banned in cosmetics and topical drugs since 1990, as research on animals shows it causes cancer when ingested. Yet somehow it has been allowed in all kinds of food. In 2022, we joined allies to petition the Food and Drug Administration to finally ban the dye from food and drinks. In January, the FDA granted our petition and officially banned Red 3! Now the FDA must build on this win with more science-backed policy changes, like supporting a wider ban on harmful chemicals in food.

Congress: Don’t Defund Safe Food & Clean WaterAs Musk and Trump take a wrecking ball to key federal agencies, Congress is now moving to pass extreme budget cuts to pay for massive tax breaks for billionaires. Billions of dollars would be taken away from food and water safety, food assistance, healthcare, and environmental protections to fund massive tax cuts for corporations and billionaires. But with Republicans holding an extremely narrow majority in the House – we can stop this agenda from moving forward. Tell your members of Congress: Don’t defund safe food and clean water!
