Hi John. I know good ideas can come from Republicans and Democrats. That includes finding ways to cut wasteful spending.
But earlier this week, the U.S. House passed a new partisan budget, which I voted against. It's nothing more than a giveaway to billionaires and big corporations, at the expense of hardworking Kansans. It guts Medicaid, spikes health care costs, and makes groceries less affordable. All while adding trillions to the national debt.
As your representative, it's important for me to listen to you, even if we don't always agree. I understand many have a variety of views, but when it comes down to it, our country is facing a choice right now. Please click below to begin taking my survey >>
What are you most concerned about when it comes to our nation’s budget?
• Cutting the Medicaid health care program.
• Repealing tax cuts that lower people’s health premiums.
• Gutting emergency nutrition assistance for families.
• All of the above.
• I support the budget proposal.
• None of the above.
• Other.

Responsible budgeting requires pragmatism – not extremism. That’s why I’ve supported bills like the bipartisan Identifying and Eliminating Wasteful Programs Act.
This bill requires federal agencies to find wasteful or duplicative programs for elimination. Then agencies must send a list of wasteful programs to Congress and make the list publicly available. Finally, the agencies then have to work with Congress to eliminate or consolidate the programs.
But that isn't the pragmatic approach we're seeing in the latest budget plan. It's the first step in a plan that raises health care costs, guts Medicaid, and cuts vital nutrition programs. And all the while it delivers massive tax giveaways to billionaires and big corporations.
More than 61,000 Kansans in our district would be at risk of losing health coverage under this plan. That includes more than 41,000 children. Hardworking people deserve a fair shot to get ahead, especially at a time of higher prices.
