Chippewa County Man Extradited from Washington to Face First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct Charges

*LANSING* – Today, Aaron Jarrett, 36, most recently of Clark County, Washington, was arraigned before the Honorable Eric. G. Blubaugh in the 91st District Court in Sault Ste Marie on five felonies for allegedly sexually assaulting a Chippewa County woman in 2016. Jarrett was extradited to Chippewa County yesterday by the U.S. Marshals Service to face these charges as part of Operation Survivor Justice [ [link removed] ].

Jarrett is accused of sexually assaulting the victim in May 2016 and was charged by the Chippewa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office later that same year with four counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, a potential life sentence, and one count of Unlawful Imprisonment, a 15-year felony.

Extraditions through Operation Survivor Justice were funded last year by a $1 million state appropriation. The Operation is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Attorney General, local county prosecutors, and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate, apprehend, and return to Michigan fugitive offenders with outstanding sexual assault warrants.

“In the six months since we announced Operation Survivor Justice, my office has worked with county prosecutors across the state and the U.S. Marshals Service to extradite over a dozen people accused of horrific sexual assaults,” Nessel said. “I remain committed to continuing this important work to keep our communities safe and ensure that those who commit such crimes are held accountable.”

Jarrett’s bond was set at $500,000. He will next appear in the 91st District Court for a Probable Cause Conference on March 13 at 9:30 a.m. and a Preliminary Exam on March 20 at 9:30 a.m.
