Last Friday at a bipartisan meeting of governors, Donald Trump threatened to deny Maine school children federal funding unless we fall in line with his personal demands. He even stated that he was "the law,” never mind Congress or the states.

I told him we’d see him in court.

Trump campaigned on bringing down the price of eggs, bread, heat, housing and cars. Instead, one month in and he’s threatening to use the federal budget to punish his enemies.

I want to make one thing clear: Maine will not be intimidated by the President’s threats.

The work to push back against Trump and his agenda begins at the state level. Can you split $7 between the Maine Democratic Party and Hold the Line to make sure they have the resources to fight back?

I was raised to be brave and to fight for what’s right. No matter the obstacles, I will always fight for the people of Maine.

Maine was where I was born and raised, where my late husband and I raised five daughters, where my grandchildren live. Their future and your family’s future right now are threatened by a wannabe strongman in the White House who is playing games with federal funding.

We will not be bullied. But that means we need to build up our party here, at the local level. Our state is the frontline in the fight for democracy. There’s never been a more important moment to lean in and engage than right now.
