Kitsap County to discuss sea level rise, parks & recreation plan and Silverdale Regional Center at Central Kitsap community meeting March 5
Public welcome to learn about these projects and how to provide input
The public is invited to join the Central Kitsap Community Council to learn about Kitsap County's ongoing environmental, recreational and Silverdale planning efforts. The meeting takes place Wednesday, March 5 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue Headquarters, located at 5300 NW Newberry Hill Road.
Jim Rogers from the Kitsap County Department of Community Development will provide an overview of the Sea Level Rise Vulnerability & Risk Assessment project. He will explain how planning efforts are being shaped by information collected on potential flooding risks and the loss or damage from rising sea levels. With over 200 miles of marine shoreline, the county is already facing hazards like coastal erosion, flooding and inundation, which increasingly threaten both public and private infrastructure, as well as public health and safety.
An update on the recently released draft of the county's Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan will also be shared. Parks Director Alex Wisniewski will discuss the proposed management and implementation strategies of the PROS Plan, which will guide stewardship of nearly 12,000 acres of county parkland, facilities and recreational resources. Public comment on the draft plan is being accepted through March 16. To review the draft and submit comments online, visit kcowa.us/PROSPlan.
The CKCC meeting will also include committee reports on the planning for a community center, community engagement, and focus on the Silverdale Regional Center Subarea Plan for 2025. Jim Rogers will provide an update on the subarea plan and its timeline. Additionally, there will be other community announcements and opportunities for public comment.
Stay informed and engaged! All CKCC are open to the public. Learn more about the council and view the meeting agenda at kcowa.us/CKCC.
