WHAT’S HAPPENING: One day after Donald Trump took office, he closed the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, opened under the Biden Administration, whose work resulted in historic lows in reported gun-related crimes. Now, this executive order could scrap serial numbers for guns which eliminated the risk for untraceable guns. This new executive order would also gut the requirement for expanded background checks - increasing the risk of guns falling in the wrong hands. 

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN: Common-sense gun safety laws are under attack. This clearly shows where Trump’s priorities lie: guns over lives. Young activists have been leading the nationwide movement to end gun violence for years, but Donald Trump is determined to appease his NRA donors.

WHAT CAN YOU DO: Young activists are tired of pro-gun Republicans pretending to care about our future. Since eliminating the most expansive gun protection policies ever enacted, young people feel our progress has been halted. We deserve to live in a world where our lives are prioritized over guns, which is why we encourage you to reach out to your representatives in Congress and ask them to ban assault weapons NOW.

WHAT’S HAPPENING: We did not elect Elon Musk as president, but Trump is letting Musk go unchecked as he destroys our government from the inside out. The Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) has gained access to sensitive data and taken it upon itself to handle the firing of employees in the Department of Education, the Treasury Department, and other departments that are critical to protecting our rights. Leaders like Rep. Maxwell Frost are calling out this unconstitutional takeover.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN: We are fed up with this duo basing their decisions on what THEY think is best for the wealthy – not what’s actually best for the everyday American. Young people across the country have joined Democrats like Maxwell Frost in protesting the blatant corruption that Donald Trump is allowing Elon Musk to get away with.
