Working Families Party

John,

On Tuesday, the Republican-led House voted to pass a budget resolution that could cut Medicaid by $880 billion, food assistance for families in need by $230 billion, and give $1.1 trillion in tax cuts to the top 1%.

Less than a day later, that same Republican leadership — in a desperate attempt to hide from the angry constituents they just betrayed — started to urge their members to avoid holding town halls.

They’re running scared from this vote — and they should be. They hoped nobody would notice. But we had other plans. And thanks to all the organizing and pressure from our members and allies, we were able to shine a bright spotlight on their hypocrisy. Now it’s time for round two.

Please pitch in today to fuel our work, John. We’ve been organizing phonebanks, sending petitions, and showing up at Congressional offices nonstop, and this type of work requires a LOT of resources to be effective.

This fight is far from over. The budget resolution was just a blueprint — and the very beginning of the long reconciliation process. Not only do they still have to work out their differences with Republicans in the Senate, but both chambers will have to actually write the legislation, detail all the cuts they want to make, and vote all over again on the final product.

And if this week’s vote is any indication, Trump and the GOP are not going to have an easy time taking away our health care so they can give trillions in tax cuts to Elon Musk and other billionaires. This week’s vote was supposed to be the easiest part, and they still had to scramble to convince dissenters.

All of our actions, our pressure, and our stories are making a difference. Republicans know how much they are betraying their own voters on this.

That’s why our mission over the next few weeks is to keep up the pressure, and refuse to let them hide from their own constituents.

Can you chip in to help fuel this critical organizing work? We need to talk to everyone, regardless of political affiliation, about how Trump, Musk, and Republicans in Congress are planning to rob working families of their food and health care.
