Waterfowl migration season is almost here. This March, witness some of its most amazing displays at Ponca State Park, a significant migration flyway. 

During Marsh Madness, witness a multitude of migrating waterfowl, including pintail, teal, snow geese, white-fronted geese, wood ducks, mallards, bald eagles and more.

Take it all in during guided blind viewings each Saturday in March. Space is limited; register by calling the park at 402-755-2284. Unguided bird viewings are welcome too.

Women can learn hunting basics in weekend workshop

Are you interested in learning to hunt, but not sure where to start? Join us at Platte River State Park March 28-30 for a weekend of hunter education taught by women, for women.

This is a great chance to gain firsthand experience with archery and firearms. You'll also learn hunting basics from experienced female hunters and enjoy meals and cabin lodging at the park. All equipment is provided.

Prescribed burns set for WMAs, state park areas

Prescribed fire is one of the best tools available to promote quality wildlife habitat. It also helps preserve grasslands, provides better forage for cattle and helps reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires. This spring, Nebraska Game and Parks will bring controlled burns to wildlife management areas, state parks and state recreation areas, where weather allows.

A unique opportunity for nature lovers

If you love nature and want to help out your community, consider becoming a Nebraska Master Naturalist this spring or summer. This one-of-a-kind program combines fascinating coursework, interactive field trips and meaningful volunteer opportunities. More than 680 people have taken this training!
