John,
In the face of this unprecedented
crisis, I’ve seen firsthand the resilience of our community. Our
response to COVID-19 has revealed a lot about our city — and the areas
where we could do more and do better.
I’ve been in our neighborhoods with
local nonprofits nearly every day since this crisis began, helping
provide food and services, from health and hygiene kits, to masks and
computers, to those in need across District 5.
COVID-19 has changed
everything. This moment demands leadership that is creative and
responsive to everyone in District 5. We need to ensure no communities are left
behind. We need to bring people together and listen, even to those who
might disagree. We need to look comprehensively at every way in which
the city and the community can confront the many dimensions of this
crisis.
I’ve been a part of this community
for 25 years. As a community organizer, I’ve been here through the
AIDS crisis to the violence of the early 2000s to the 2008 recession.
It’s in times like these that deep, personal connections and the
ability to create real on-the-ground solutions matter.
That’s why I’m stepping up
now to run for Supervisor in District 5. And
I’ve created a blueprint for recovery that puts our communities
first.
This blueprint will start a
conversation about saving what makes our neighborhoods healthy and
vibrant.
Recovery won’t be fast and it won’t
be easy. We can’t go back to the way things were. If we make the right
choices now, we will come out stronger. We’ll reimagine how we tackle
our toughest challenges in this new reality — from housing and
homelessness to transit and the existential threat of climate
change.
I’m
honored that over 100 neighbors and community leaders across District
5 have already asked me to run. Will you join them and add your
name?
San Francisco has faced tragedy in
the past, and has always come back stronger than before. I’ve had
experience with that in my own life more than a few times and I hope I
can do that for all of us as a leader for District 5.
I hope to earn your support. Please
reach out to me directly if there’s anything you need.
