Welcome to the latest edition of Emily’s Notes — updates from Washington’s 6th and Washington, D.C.

Here’s what I’ve been up to:

• Answering your calls — My office has been flooded with calls in the last few weeks in the wake of President Trump and Elon Musk’s cruel, damaging, and unconstitutional actions.

It’s a frustrating and scary time, and my team is using every avenue to keep folks informed.

In addition to answering your calls [[link removed]] , I joined Senator Patty Murray on Instagram Live [[link removed]] to talk about the funding freeze and gave updates on the Oversight Committee while prepping salad for the week. [[link removed]]

• Sharing your stories — I represent more than 27,000 federal workers, many of them veterans. Shuttering USAID, freezing all grants, including Medicaid payments, slashing staff at PSNS and Veterans Affairs, and accessing our private data from the U.S. Treasury directly threaten my constituent’s lives and livelihoods.

• Bringing Olivia’s story to Capitol Hill — The Oversight Committee’s hearing on our social safety net gave me the opportunity to talk about my sister, Olivia [[link removed]] , and how Medicaid and special education funding transformed our lives. The Trump-Musk Administration is proposing $880 billion in Medicaid cuts in exchange for tax breaks for billionaires — we’re standing up to stop them.

• Say hello to your new Co-Chair 🏳️‍🌈 — In more positive news, I’m proud to share that I’ve been selected as one of the new Co-Chairs of the Equality Caucus, dedicated to fighting for full equality for LGBTQ+ Americans! Despite the MAGA attacks on the rights and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community, the Equality Caucus is larger than ever, with 191 members from across the country.

Now, this is the part where I ask for a donation.

Why is President Trump issuing all these Executive Orders? Because he knows that he can’t get the worst of his agenda through Congress. Without actual bills passed by Congress, anything he does with the stroke of his pen can be undone with the stroke of a pen by a future president.

The Republican majority in the House is one of the smallest in history. If we can peel off a handful of Republicans, we can stop bad MAGA bills in their tracks. And if we flip a handful of House seats, we can put a firm check on the Trump-Musk administration.

I’m not waiting. I’m organizing and mobilizing to take back the House NOW, and fundraising is critical. The more we raise, the more we can help Democrats in swing districts make their case to voters.
