Seattle Democratic Socialists of America

Seattle DSA stands in solidarity with the movement for Black lives and with our comrades around the country fighting for justice. We demand #JusticeforGeorgeFloyd, #JusticeforBreonnaTaylor, #JusticeforAhmaudArbery, #JusticeforTonyMcDade and all those lost to police brutality and white supremacy. In Seattle, we are still demanding justice for Malik Williams, Charleena Lyles, and Che Taylor, among so many others.

Our national organization writes in their statement condemning George Floyd’s murder: “Racist police violence is not incidental to the capitalist system, it is necessary to maintain its operation.” We recognize that true freedom from police and state violence, from exploitation and oppression, requires a fundamental socialist transformation of our society. As we fight for that future, we are redoubling our efforts to bring down the racist criminal justice and mass incarceration systems. In Seattle, we are committed to fighting for community control over the police, defunding and demilitarizing the police, and stopping the sweeps.

Join the national day of action this Saturday, May 30!
Join Not This Time for “The Defiant Walk of Resistance Against Injustice,”
a protest at Westlake in downtown Seattle at 3PM

If you attend the protest, please be safe — wear a mask, stand a safe distance apart, and consider attending with comrades. Seattle DSA will be meeting at the back of Westlake park at 4th and Pike.

Then, join us this coming Tuesday, June 2nd, for our SDSA General Membership Meeting. We’ll talk about the uprising in Minneapolis and how we can help fight racism and police brutality in Seattle. We’ll also hear from farmworkers on strike in Yakima about their struggle, as well as how SDSA can go all out for the final month to collect signatures for the campaign to Tax Amazon to fund Green New Homes.

In solidarity,

Seattle DSA
