That didn’t take long.
Yesterday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference, JD Vance hinted pretty hard that the GOP’s next priority is a national abortion ban. As he put it, they’ve got the power .

Despite plenty of empty promises and misleading redirections from the Trump-Vance ticket on the campaign trail, this call to action from the Vice President comes as no surprise.
We have always known that our reproductive freedom was going to be on the chopping block under this Administration.
The overturning of Roe was always the beginning – it was never the end goal. And now they’ve turned their sights to a national abortion ban. [[link removed]]
Case in point: Republicans in the House introduced legislation just a few weeks ago to implement a national abortion ban – HR 722 would give embryos the same legal rights as people from the moment of conception.
This is obviously extreme, and some say a bill like this would be impossible to pass. I really hope they’re right, but people said the same thing about overturning Roe, and here we are.
Our reality in the 119th Congress is pretty grim. Congressional Republicans have given zero indicators that they intend on standing up to the White House or any of Trump’s demands, no matter how extreme, or even illegal.
If the GOP succeeds in getting HR 722 or any other national abortion legislation enacted, it will override any state abortion protections, including state constitutional protections.
So let’s be clear: Here in California, our rights are on the line, too.
This has been a dark email so far, so let’s pivot to what we can actually do about this.
I will never stop fighting for legal, safe, accessible, and stigma-free abortion care – no matter who’s in the majority. But I’ll need you by my side.
A strong public showing on these issues does matter, so I’m asking you to raise your voice.
The data is undeniable: 61% of Americans believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases – and we need to make that clear to congressional Republicans. Add your name to my public petition to show the immense support reproductive freedom has in this country. [[link removed]]
