Dear john,

Over the last week, I have paid close attention to the layoffs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. The CDC is a vital part of our nation's preparedness and the foundation of our ability to fight pandemics and develop treatments. The Trump Administration's mass firings of dedicated public health workers in metro Atlanta and removal of tracking information threaten the health of our families. If you were impacted by these cuts or have a story to share, please contact my office.

The state of Georgia has missed the final deadline to notify the U.S. Department of Agriculture of its plans to participate in the Summer EBT program known as "Sun Bucks." According to USDA, Georgia is one of 11 states that will not take part in the program. At a time of uncertainty and food insecurity, our families deserve to know they can afford meals when their children are home for the summer. Governor Kemp is letting Georgia miss out on critical federal funding and refusing to feed and protect our children. This is cruel and indefensible. With my Georgia delegation colleagues, I have led three letters to Governor Kemp demanding answers. Click here to read more about my ongoing efforts to urge him to opt in to this critically important program.

During this week's District Work Period, I conducted another series of meetings with local mayors to monitor the needs and priorities of each city within our district. My office remains a resource for every constituent who needs help with a federal issue, and I appreciate the opportunity to hear from elected officials about the phenomenal work they are doing every day in our community.

I was also pleased to address the Georgia State Council of Machinists this week. In the House Education and Workforce Committee, I am the only Member of Congress from the Deep South who believes in the power of a union and strong federal labor laws. I will always speak out against the Trump Administration's attacks on organized labor and what I believe to be the illegal firing of the Chair of the National Labor Relations Board. As this Congress proceeds, I will continue to speak out against unfair attacks on labor unions.

Rep. McBath stands between two tables. An American flag and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers flag stand behind her. She is flanked by two banners which read "Georgia State Council of Machinists."

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. It is my honor to serve our community in Congress. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch with my office.
