John —
President Trump promised not to cut Medicaid. But this week, Republicans in Washington DC voted for a bill that likely rips away health insurance from 630,000 hard-working North Carolinians. This will especially hurt our rural areas like western NC.
In an overwhelming 2023 bipartisan vote, we finally expanded Medicaid in North Carolina after a decade of fighting for it. It is a huge success so far — hundreds of thousands of working people can get the health care they need.
We enrolled twice as many people as we thought possible during the first year because there was so much demand for quality health care. It was the right thing to do — for our economy, for rural hospitals, for mental health, and more.
The very premise is outrageous: Gutting Medicaid to fund tax cuts for billionaires. Stripping health care access from the people who need it most, so that the wealthy can pay even less of their fair share.
John, many Republican politicians, including Donald Trump, promised they wouldn’t touch Medicaid. We have to hold them accountable.
This is wrong, and North Carolina Republican leaders — in Raleigh and Washington — should hold the President to his word.
