Folks,
Senate Republicans have blocked a resolution I filed to terminate President Trump’s executive order declaring a sham energy “emergency.”
Let me explain what that means:
On Inauguration Day, one of the slew of executive orders Trump signed declared a national energy emergency — a move designed to accelerate fossil fuel development and withdraw support for renewable energy.
In other words, as Trump puts it: “Drill, baby, drill.”
Here’s why this is nonsense — far from being an emergency, the United States is actually producing more energy than ANY other point in history! Not only that, but investments from the Inflation Reduction Act are creating jobs, lowering energy costs for families and businesses, and securing America’s leadership at the forefront of clean energy. (Or they were — until Trump pulled the federal investments from the law and killed those good-paying jobs…)
So the “emergency” order isn’t about energy at all. It’s about Trump doing Big Oil’s bidding.
It’s a shameless power grab that makes it easier for massive fossil fuel corporations to profit at the expense of everyday Americans and our environment.
We already knew Donald Trump was in Big Oil’s pocket. Now we know that the Senate GOP is right there with him.
Maybe they’ll regret this decision when their constituents’ energy bills go through the roof — but more likely, they’ll keep right on kowtowing to Trump and his donors.
It will be up to us to continue speaking out as loudly and clearly as we possibly can against this kind of irresponsible, corrupt governance.
Will you join me? A strong public outcry does make a difference. Add your name to my public petition today to demand the GOP do their job and put Americans first. [[link removed]]
