The impacts of extreme inequality and the potential for change are coming to a head. How does this and should this shape our sector’s work?
We are at a critical juncture—the impacts of extreme inequality and the potential for change are coming to a head. How does this and should this shape our sector’s work?
Many of us are ending the week reeling from all that has occurred in the country. The killings of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd, and the offhand attempted ordering of a hit on birdwatcher Christian Cooper, have again provoked uprisings against police violence and the deep systemic racism that perpetuates it and a host of other chronic injustices. The protests—with many now calling for an end to policing—are a result of often unseen local organizing and social movement networks who have stepped up to demand accountability way too many times.
It’s past time for a more unified set of demands for racial justice. We are at a critical juncture where the impacts of extreme inequality and the potential for change are coming to a head. For this reason, today we are suspending temporarily our regular feature and newswire newsletter to ask you, our readers, to tell us how this should shape the work of our sector.
Please share a short written piece, a video, a picture, or a song, which we will compile in a short video to be shared with our wider audience next week.
Due to the number of submissions, we might not be able to include all responses on the final product. Please send us your submissions by no later than Sunday, May 31st, at 2:00 pm ET.
