John, the Bay Area is known for its breathtaking
parks, but not every neighborhood has enjoyed the same access to green
spaces. That's changing in Bayview-Hunters Point, where a
historically underinvested area is reclaiming its waterfront,
transforming it into a vibrant community hub: India Basin Waterfront
Park.

This project isn't just about creating a park-it's
about people. Together with the local community, we're ensuring
this space reflects their vision and needs. That commitment extends
beyond design; it's built into every tree planted and bench
installed.
Through an innovative workforce development program, residents who
were interested in construction careers were recruited and received
relevant training, ensuring that the park is built by the people who
call this neighborhood home.
Josue Martinez, one of the project workers, shared:
"I'm grateful for this opportunity because I was struggling to
break into the construction industry. If you don't know people,
if you don't have the necessary skills, it's
hard."
Thanks to workforce training, Josue and dozens of others are
establishing a park that will serve their community for
generations.
John, you can see this impactful story come to
life.
