Pittsburgh is bracing for research job losses and career disruptions ([link removed]) as federal funding cuts take shape.

The Trump administration's National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding cap could cost Pittsburgh institutions over $100 million in research operating expenses.

“It would have a similar effect to the closing of a steel mill,” said Vaughn Cooper, a professor of microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh. “This is not a steel town anymore; it’s a biomedical research town, and those cuts would affect Pittsburgh perhaps more than any other city in the country ([link removed]) .”
