Visiting National Parks in a safe and sustainable way

The outbreak of Covid-19 has had a profound impact on the environment, society and the economy.

Many people have been enjoying the chance to explore their local area on foot or by bike while there are fewer cars around and it would be great to think that more people could enjoy some of those same experiences in National Parks.

We would like to see National Park Authorities and other organisations take advantage of this opportunity to ensure that more people can travel around safely and sustainably within the Parks as lockdown restrictions start to ease.

The pandemic has shown how important nature and space is to our wellbeing. To ensure that we are able to meet this challenge we must provide better alternatives for travelling to and around National Parks without a car.

Biodiversity Day

As part of Biodiversity Day on 22 May, Campaign for National Parks helped promote Wales Environment Link’s ‘Species Champion'.

Lots of people sent in photos of #biodiversityinmybackyard on Biodiversity Day, to celebrate the nature on our doorstep.

One of our favourites was a photo of a Comma Butterfly by @mg1photos

CNP Chief Executive to stand down

Corinne Pluchino will be stepping down as Chief Executive of Campaign for National Parks in June 2020. She is relocating to South West England to be closer to her family following a change in personal circumstances.

Corinne said: “It has been a privilege to lead such a highly-respected organisation making such an important contribution to the well-being of our most beautiful landscapes for the long-term benefit of the nation. I am very proud of what the team has accomplished, and I have enjoyed working with them and the Trustee Board very much. I would like to thank all of them, and our wider community of members, friends, and partners for their support.”

We are currently recruiting Corinne’s successor and will have more news to share very shortly.
