Dear John,
This year, the Nonhuman Rights Project turns 30! Three decades on, we remain the only organization in the US dedicated solely to securing legal rights for nonhuman animals. Our work isn’t just about changing a centuries-old legal framework so it’s fair to members of other species. It’s also about deepening compassion and respect for the freedom of other beings. And we couldn’t do any of it without you!
We’ll be celebrating our 30th anniversary throughout the year with special content and events focused on where we’ve been, who we are as an organization, and where we’re headed, with your thoughts welcome! Right now, we have one request for you. If you’re in a financial position to do so, would you consider becoming a monthly donor to the NhRP [[link removed]] ?
As you may know, monthly donors are especially important to a mission like ours. In many ways, they’re the roots of the systemic legal change for animals we all want to see: anchoring, providing steady sustenance, aiding in times of unpredictability and difficulty.
Changing an unjust status quo takes time, and we’re still in the early stages of a movement that will continue to evolve and grow for generations. Monthly donations allow us to plan ahead, seize every opportunity to help our clients and raise awareness of the injustices animals endure, and adapt to ever-changing circumstances. The more monthly donors we have, the more animals we can help, the more people we can reach, and the more quickly change will come.
We’ve set an ambitious goal–30 new monthly donors in the next three days. Can you help us get there and help animals find justice? [[link removed]]

Without rights, animals are legally equivalent to inanimate objects: trapped in a legal framework that says their suffering matters only if advocates can prove humans have been harmed by the animals’ mistreatment. This legal framework is irrational, outdated, and wrong. Year after year, more and more people are seeing it this way–and calling for change. In the coming weeks and months, we look forward to sharing further reflections on the NhRP’s past, present, and future and inviting you to share your thoughts and stories.
Thank you for considering becoming a monthly donor!
With the deepest gratitude for your support for this mission,
Lauren Choplin
Communications Director, the NhRP
