John,

Due to COVID-19 and the uncertainties before us, the Women’s and Fair Practices Departments have decided to cancel our in-person Diversity Week Training scheduled July 31 - August 8, 2020. This comes after long discussions of the potential health risk an in-person meeting may have on our members and the safety of our staff. We recognize the great importance Diversity Week and our provided trainings has on the function of our union and the overall education and development of our members. In response, we will be offering a variety of virtual trainings this summer and further trainings in 2021.

For anyone who has registered and paid to attend Diversity Week: The Women’s and Fair Practices Departments will be reimbursing all online payments via CVENT, the platform used to collect payment, in the next few days. If you paid by check, your check will either be returned to you OR a reimbursement check will be sent. Additionally, if you made room reservations at the Gaylord National Resort, you can contact them and inform them that this event has been cancelled. They will cancel your room and reimburse you of any made payments.

SAVE THE DATE!: UPCOMMING VIRTUAL TRAINING

Just because we can’t meet in person doesn’t mean that we all can’t lift up our fellow union siblings and learn how we can make our union communities stronger and more inclusive. We will be holding virtual trainings in the months of July, August and September! A save the date will be forthcoming for these virtual training opportunities. Be sure to keep an eye on your inbox for more information.

If you have any questions or concerns about our upcoming trainings or about our event cancellation, please contact AFGE Women’s and Fair Practices Departments Program Specialist Denver Supinger at [email protected] or at 202-639-4126.

We hope to (virtually) see you soon!

In Solidarity,

Jeremy A. Lannan
NVP for Women and Fair Practices
