Over the past week, I’ve faced threats of legal action from Trump’s Department of Justice and a censure from my Republican colleagues for simply speaking out against Elon Musk. All of this is happening while the Donald Trump dismantles our federal agencies, and passes one of the most disastrous budgets in modern history.

The American people have been pleading with House Republicans to listen, to do their jobs, and to make the government work for the people. Instead, Donald Trump has chosen to send the DOJ after me.

Across the country, we are seeing disturbing attacks on our rights. Citizens are being removed or arrested from town halls for peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights. Students are being targeted for expulsion or deportation simply for participating in peaceful protests. The U.S. Attorney behind these threats even calls himself Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, vowing to track down anyone who challenges the administration.

These actions are the kind of thing you’d expect in authoritarian regimes, not the United States. It’s all part of a plan to silence us and force us to accept the damage they are doing to our country. But I refuse to sit down and stay silent.
