Friend --
There’s still more cold weather on the horizon, and it’s not too late to look for help from the government.
We know you saw our last email about LIHEAP – the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program that can help low income families struggling with their heating or cooling bills. We wanted to remind you that it’s not too late to apply for help if you need it. Visit Working America’s LIHEAP Guide to learn whether you qualify for assistance and how to apply:
Government programs like LIHEAP are vital for leveling the playing field for working families. Costs on things like energy, health care, and child care are way up, while wages for working families haven’t kept pace. That’s why recent attacks on government programs – and cuts to taxes on corporations and the wealthy that pay for them – are so dangerous. Working families depend on programs like Medicare, federal student loans, FHA first-time-home-buyer programs, and Social Security.
The federal budget process can be confusing but make no mistake – LIHEAP and programs like it could be at risk under some of the plans under discussion in Washington. We’ll be tracking these developments in Washington and working to keep you informed. We’re asking all Working Americans to pledge to stay informed about what our leaders are doing about a fair economy and protecting consumers. Sign up here if you pledge to be part of that fight and if you want Working America updates and opportunities about a fair economy.
In the meantime, don’t forget to check out our other guides to government benefits and navigating the economy at www.workingamerica.org/gethelp. We’ll be adding new guides regularly throughout the year. More info to come!
