John,

Thank you for joining our campaign! I’m so glad you’re a part of this fight. Let me tell you a little bit about who I am and why I’m running for Congress.

I grew up in a rural community that struggled as our economy changed. My father was a military veteran, a community college teacher, and the first in his family to attend college. My mother ran a small-town store. Both worked late into the night, most nights, trying to pay the bills and save for the future. And they each fought tough battles against cancer.

My parents taught me the values of hard work and determination. And they believed in the basic compact of the American Dream -- that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can get a fair shot.

But that’s not what’s happening in Washington right now. Partisan gridlock and special interests are drowning out the voices of everyday Americans, even during this unimaginable crisis. Our leaders are playing politics while millions are suffering from the coronavirus and the economic crisis it has spawned. This needs to change.

And that’s why I’m running for Congress.

But I can’t do it without your help. Please, if you can, chip in $5 or more now to help me get Washington to put partisanship aside and put our communities first.

After college, I worked on housing and infrastructure projects in growing communities around the world. Then, starting with an idea at my kitchen table, I built a software company called Topia that’s pioneered new tools to help tens of thousands of workers access good jobs in our changing economy. I’ve gone on to advise lawmakers on a range of economic and workplace policy issues -- including issues surrounding remote work -- and I’ve seen how partisanship is standing in the way of real solutions.

Like anyone, I’ve had to face my share of adversity. But I know that progress demands a willingness to work with people from different points of view to solve real problems.

Partisan gridlock. The corrupting influence of special interests in Washington. Wildfires. The rising cost of housing and healthcare. The national debt. A tax code that shortchanges our community, and infrastructure that’s in desperate need of modernization.

These are not Democratic or Republican issues.

Yet too many politicians are trying to get us to fight against each other, neighbor against neighbor as if they were.

This campaign is determined to disrupt this dynamic, and in doing so, to help more people in California’s 4th District realize the American Dream -- just like I did.

Please, chip in whatever you can to help end the party-over-country mentality of Washington, D.C. and help us fight for real change for everyday people.

The number one priority during this time is to make sure everyone helps mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in California and across the country. Our campaign is doing our part by canceling all in-person events, moving to a digital operation, and supporting local efforts to help those in need. Emails like this are a critical part of our ability to run a strong campaign that can win.
