The American Prospect just reported¹ that the lackey that Elon Musk installed as Acting Commissioner of the Social Security Administration is making moves to fire HALF of the workforce at the Social Security Administration.

The Social Security Administration is already chronically understaffed. This would devastate it.

For decades, when Republicans have power they have slashed funding for the Social Security Administration, forcing the closure of field offices around the country, and sending wait times for the 800 number soaring. The goal isn’t saving money, it’s an attempt to make Americans resent a Social Security system that they cherish.

Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, wants to replace dedicated, knowledgeable Social Security experts with AI chatbots that he will sell to the government. AI chatbots are no substitute for in-person service from a human being. Americans apply for Social Security benefits at the most vulnerable times of their lives. In fact, many people who seek information may have trouble articulating or even knowing what questions they need to ask.

DOGE claims to be concerned about fraud, but the best way to detect fraud is through face-to-face contacts with humans who can detect suspicious responses and can read body language.

Social Security’s administrative funding comes from the $2.7 trillion Social Security trust fund that we pay into throughout our working lives. Elon Musk would be stealing our money and putting it directly into his own pocket with one hand–while giving himself a massive tax cut with the other hand!

Musk wants to build a wall between Americans and our Social Security benefits! We must not let that happen.
