Another day, another blatant assault on disaster relief, John.

Donald Trump is now planning massive cuts to staff in the office that helps communities rebuild after the worst climate catastrophes.

The Office of Community Planning and Development, part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), steps in when FEMA funding isn’t enough. This is the office that helps families rebuild their homes and get back on their feet after large-scale disasters. It’s the same office that helped recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene in North Carolina and Hurricane Milton in Florida.

Trump plans to cut its staff from 936 to 150. And when the next disaster strikes, communities would be left scrambling, waiting for help that may never come. If we’re going to stop Trump’s dangerous agenda and protect our communities, we need to elect more climate champions at every level — chip in now to help make it happen. [[link removed]]

Make no mistake — this is a direct assault on communities hit hardest by the climate crisis. Congress created HUD to rebuild homes, fix roads, restore water systems, and ensure that working-class communities aren’t left behind in the wake of our country’s worst disasters.

Who would benefit from these DOGE-ordered cuts? Not you. Not families trying to recover from climate disasters. Billionaires and fossil fuel executives, on the other hand, are getting everything they want. Trump is slashing climate disaster funding so he can hand out more tax breaks to Big Oil. He’s taking money away from communities trying to survive and giving it to the industries fueling these disasters in the first place.

That’s why our fight is urgent. The climate crisis is here. It’s fueling deadlier storms and bigger disasters every year. We need real leaders in office who will protect our communities — not cast them aside.
