Textbook Goal Accomplished
For Giving Tuesday, we set the goal of raising $13,000 for the 1,450 students at Gileteni Methodist School in Inhambane, Mozambique, who are in desperate need of textbooks. You rose to the challenge! Over $13,000 was raised to purchase 14,050 textbooks in English, French and Portuguese for students aged 12-18. We are in conversation with our Mozambican partners about other schools in need of textbooks.

Solar Panel Update

In 2022 and 2023, Missouri churches took on an ambitious goal of providing 50 solar panel kits for parsonages in remote Mozambique. Access to power provides the church and pastor with resources to help others charge cell phones, allow children to study after dark and encourage community in places far from electrical grids.
We exceeded our goal, and 2024 has involved the tough work of deploying the panels to the homes that need them. By nature of the need, these locations are remote, and the political unrest in the country has led to additional delays. Last year, 24 solar panel kits were installed, and two remain in progress. 29,300 People Gained Access to Clean Water in 2024
Eleven wells were drilled across Mozambique last year. Some wells were in more urban contexts. Others were very rural. All of these wells were solar tower wells, which incorporate a pump and tower that creates a micro-utility for the surrounding community. The work of leaders within the Mozambican UMC, drillers and their crews, and your donations all worked together to bring clean water to 29,300 people. This is amazing! You can find a list of the wells drilled throughout the year in the 2024 Well Report.
Share the Impact of Clean Water
The Mozambique Initiative supports access to safe, clean water in Mozambican communities by drilling hand pump and solar-powered tower wells. The need for clean water is great in Mozambique: About half of the population doesn’t have access to safe water. Hand-pump wells and solar tower wells provide access to this life-saving resource in remote locations.
We’ve created resources, so you can share with your church group how access to clean water is changing lives. Download a one-page info sheet, shareable infographics and more at www.mzinitiative.com/donations/solar-wells
Over $527,500 Given in 2023
We're thankful for the individuals and churches who continued to contribute sacrificially to ministries in Mozambique. In 2024, the Mozambique Initiative received $527,751.83 for a variety of ministries, including textbooks, solar panels, healthcare, food and safe water in Mozambique. One hundred percent of these donations arrive in Mozambique thanks to the partnership between the Missouri Annual Conference and the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. Thank you for your generosity!
Pray for Upcoming Episcopal Elections
Keep our siblings in Mozambique in your prayers March 13-17. The Africa Central Conference will be electing four new bishops, one of which will be assigned to the Mozambique episcopal areas. The central conference also will take the final steps to becoming two central conferences — East Africa and Southern Africa.
