Senate Republican Priorities on the Move
|
The Indiana General Assembly reached the halftime point in the legislative session this week, which means bills must have passed out of their original chamber in order to keep moving forward in the process.
This year, Senate Republicans are prioritizing:
These bills now move to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
In the second half of session, the Senate will present our version of the state's two-year budget proposal.
Money the state takes in was first earned by hardworking Hoosiers, so I believe it is important to ensure it is invested wisely. That's why, as your state senator, I will work hard to ensure our state government lives within its means, runs efficiently and funds necessary services for taxpayers.

Casino Bill to Identify Top Indiana Region for Relocation Passes Senate
|
This week, a bill I authored that would identify which regions in Indiana could benefit most from a casino passed the Senate.
Senate Bill 43 would require the Indiana Gaming Commission to conduct an independent study with the goal of identifying the top three regions in the state where a casino license could be relocated. The commission would then need to submit the findings of the study to the State Budget Committee by Oct. 1, 2025.
This bill came to be after the long, in-depth discussion over my original casino bill, Senate Bill 293, which was held in committee and will not progress any further in the legislative process. This bill would have allowed for Rising Sun Casino's gaming license to be relocated to New Haven.
After hearing hours of SB 293 testimony in committee and through many conversations with my colleagues in the General Assembly, we landed on SB 43.
My hopes are that the results from this study will support my efforts in advocating for a casino in northern Indiana. I believe with a move like this, our region could see huge economic boosts and infrastructure improvements.
SB 43 now moves to the House for further consideration.

Celebrating FFA Week
Feb. 15-22 is FFA Week in Indiana, when more than 14,000 Hoosier FFA members participate in activities that promote the importance of agricultural education.
Recently, Hoosier FFA members were invited to the Statehouse to participate in Indiana FFA Page Day, where they worked alongside legislators and learned about the legislative process.
