Dear John,
Thank you again for reading my newsletter.
Over the past month, I've been working hard to deliver for local people and represent your views on numerous key issues. Here are just some of the things I've been doing.

There has been ** real progress in the Scottish Conservative campaign ([link removed])
to extend the Borders Railway to Hawick, Newcastleton and onto Carlisle.
When I was re-elected as your MP, I promised to work constructively with the UK and Scottish governments to advance this project.
I have stuck to that promise and it has now been confirmed that £10 million will be provided for a feasibility study on the extension.
This is wonderful news for local communities, commuters and businesses.

I have been deeply concerned by some proposals for energy projects in the Borders.
The Cross Border Connection Project would install 75km of mega-pylons across our local area.
There are also several battery storage sites being proposed too, for instance near Eccles.
We all understand the need to act to protect the environment and improve energy infrastructure, but the views of people who actually live here cannot be overlooked or ignored.
It should be common sense that local people must get to decide what's best for our own communities.

In Scotland, the SNP have raised taxes to the highest levels in the UK, while also reducing the amount of funding that local authorities have to spend on essential services.
Now, because of decisions by the Labour government at Westminster, National Insurance is increasing for businesses and organisations, including our council.
As a result, local authorities across Scotland are now in the impossible position of either cutting services or raising taxes to balance the books.
It's not right that budget decisions made in Edinburgh and London will mean people in the Borders have to pay more.
I will continue to ** make the case for lower bills ([link removed])
here in the Borders and across Scotland.

If I can help you with anything, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards,
John Lamont MP
