Trump and Musk are illegally withholding or redirecting Congressionally approved funds, cutting off critical programs in areas like cancer research and clean energy—without any oversight or accountability. Hundreds of thousands of essential federal workers have been illegally fired or threatened.
Now, Democrats are calling on Republicans in Congress to step up and restore the legislative branch’s authority over federal spending before it's too late.
Democrats in Congress want the upcoming government funding bill to include guardrails that force the administration to follow the law and spend funds as directed by Congress.
Republicans must decide now: Will they defend Congress' constitutional power of the purse, or will they let Trump and Musk turn the executive branch into an unchecked dictatorship?
With the March 14 deadline for passing a government funding bill fast approaching, Republicans have a choice—either help pass a funding bill that restores Congress’ authority or risk shutting down the government.
This isn’t a game. Failing to act means allowing Trump and Musk to continue defunding vital programs at will while pushing the country toward economic chaos.
Democratic Senator Patty Murray is leading the effort to rein in the Trump administration and protect Congress’ power to appropriate taxpayer money toward government programs.
"We need to know Republicans are willing to work with us to protect Congress’ power of the purse — and I welcome any and all ideas they may have on how we can work together to do just that,” Murray said. “Republicans should not be so eager to let Elon Musk cut off cancer research or clean energy jobs in their districts," she added.
Tell Republicans to put the needs of their constituents over Donald Trump’s desire for unchecked power. Stop Trump and Musk from hijacking federal spending and dragging us into another government shutdown.
