CFPM: Florida holds special primary election to fill vacancies in U.S. House
There are two big states holding special elections on April 1, John. The state of Florida is holding a special election to fill vacancies in the U.S. House of Representatives, following cabinet nominations by President Donald Trump.
Why are these special elections important? Opponents of voting rights hold a 3 seat majority -- 218 to 215 -- in the House. One media report after another tells the tale -- Speaker Mike Johnson is having a hard time wrangling them all to vote for his priorities, and any dent made in that majority will make it harder for them to pass bills that harm voting rights this year or next.
It all starts with the American Confidence in Elections (ACE) Act which would nationalize voter suppression and the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would add onerous voter ID requirements, potentially disenfranchising millions of married women who changed their last names. Those bills are just the tip of the suppressive iceberg, with many in Congress looking to follow the election lies to policies that disenfranchise voters and make Trump happy.
We can stop all that with huge voter turnout in these Florida specials. But we need your help to make voters in Florida aware of these special elections, when early voting starts, how to request a new mail-in ballot, and so much more.

Integrity First Voter Action Project is dedicated to expanding ballot access and increasing voter participation across the country.
Since the Supreme Court gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act, extreme politicians have taken advantage to pass harsh laws that restrict access to the ballot box. These restrictions particularly affect disadvantaged communities and people of color. It’s our goal to bring awareness to these laws wherever they may crop up and organize voters to take action to ensure the right to vote is available to everyone in their states and communities.
