Howdy friend,
I am so excited to share that I’ll be speaking at next week’s Texas Trailblazers Block Party!

You and I both know that the future of Texas hinges on the strength of our public schools.
Throughout my childhood, my family and I experienced food and housing insecurity. My public school was always there for me, providing me and my family stability during difficult times.
After becoming the first in my family to graduate college, I decided to devote my life to fighting for opportunities for others.
I became the first Latina and first Black woman to serve on the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school board. And in 2022, President Biden appointed me as a Regional Administrator for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It was my honor to show up to work everyday and combat housing insecurity across the Southwest.
But now, Trump plans on firing 84% of HUD’s staff and terminating the Department of Education.
It is up to all of us to stand up against Trump’s threats to our communities. As Democrats, we need to come together, organize, and build off of the resistance movement that has been alive and well in Texas for decades.
I’m excited to do just that at the Texas Trailblazers Block Party — and I hope I’ll see you there, friend. [[link removed]]
WHEN: Wednesday, Mar 5, 2025
WHERE: 📍Hotel Vegas in Austin, TX
It’ll be a special opportunity to gather in community with other changemakers from across our great state, learn from each other, and build our resistance.

I hope you’ll join me to celebrate all the ways in which we can and should come together to resist adversity.
My friend, together we will build a Texas of justice and equity — a Texas that is truly free.
Thank you,
Candace Valenzuela
