Dear John,
We are at a turning point in our nation’s history. Across the country, people are outraged—rightfully so. The threat to our democracy is real, and the stakes could not be higher. A system that benefits only the wealthiest few while eroding the rights and voices of everyday Americans is tightening its grip. Trump and his allies seek to reshape our government into a corrupt oligarchy where power is hoarded at the top, and the people are left to suffer. Their greed is limitless, and the frustration sweeping this country is not just justified—it’s necessary.
But let’s be clear: outrage alone is not enough. Democrats cannot keep blaming “messaging failures” while refusing to hold our own leadership accountable. Where is the Democratic leadership rising to meet this moment? Senator Bernie Sanders—at 82 years old—is still traveling the country, drawing massive crowds in places like Nebraska and Iowa, speaking directly to working people. And yet, the corporate media won’t show it. Why? Because those at the top of our own party are failing to harness the energy of this movement. They spend more time in cable news studios than in town halls across their districts. That must change.
And let’s talk about those at the top: House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer—both from deep-blue New York—seem completely disconnected from the struggles of working Americans in the rest of the country. Their positions are safe, their donors are powerful, and their urgency is nonexistent. The Democratic leadership is out of touch, insulated by wealth and special interests while the people they claim to represent are screaming for action.
Schumer has done a lot of good—we would never take that away from him. But we can’t ignore how he lost the majority. Sinema and Manchin sided with Republicans time and time again with no consequences. They could have been stripped of their committee assignments, but he never took that step. Instead, he chose to play it safe—and look where that got us.
We also need to confront a hard truth: our party cannot continue to be beholden to corporate and foreign interests. The reason some Democrats resist policies like Medicare for All isn’t a mystery—they are funded by insurance and pharmaceutical lobbyists. The reason some push for endless foreign military aid? Their campaigns are bankrolled by the defense industry and foreign governments. This isn’t about singling out individuals—it’s about admitting that President Biden is no longer in a position to lead this fight. So who will? Who will step up and actually listen to the people? Even Senator Sanders, one of the few unwavering champions of working Americans, knows he cannot carry this movement alone. Someone must rise to the occasion.
Blaming Trump and Musk is easy. Yes, they are dangerous, self-serving figures who have done real harm. But Trump didn’t win by accident. He spoke to people directly—often with lies—but he made them feel heard. Meanwhile, too many in our own party dismissed or ignored the very people who make up our base. They justified inaction in the face of genocide, failed to fight hard enough for policies we claim to support, and never took meaningful steps to address the deep corruption of money in politics. The Supreme Court has been exposed as compromised by investigative reporting, yet no real accountability has followed.
But here’s the good news: the people are no longer waiting. This upcoming cycle, primaries will be everywhere. Those who fail to represent their districts with integrity and urgency will be challenged. No Dem Left Behind is officially shifting its stance—we will actively support primary challengers against those who do not fight for the people they serve.
Trump and his allies are aggressively pushing their agenda while too many on our side offer only excuses. That time is over. The American people are demanding action, and we are here to ensure they get it. Join our movement today, and together we can make a real change and get the action we deserve.
In Solidarity,
The No Dem Left Behind Team
