John, they’re not even trying to hide it anymore. Trump wants to be a king.
But our government was designed to prevent any treasonous president from becoming a tyrant or a king. Freedom from monarchy is the reason we exist as a country.
Trump is learning the hard way no matter how much he wants to, he can’t turn the presidency into a monarchy.
He rules this way because he is not an effective politician – he needs Congress to create true change, but he’s too inexperienced and impatient to actually whip the votes.
Until Trump figures out how to work with Congress OR the courts grant him significantly more power under the unitary executive theory, his presidency will remain little more than a paper-thin marketing campaign, with its impact limited to powers solely within the executive branch with the rest of it stuck in the courts.
Once we flip the House in two years, he will be even less able to accomplish the massive changes he seeks. As a result, Trump is going to fail to address any of the major issues he campaigned on – whether it’s the border or lowering prices.
All we will see are BS attempts at addressing those issues because he can’t do that successfully without help from Congress. Until then, we need to hammer home the real harm he is doing and how he is completely failing to address anything he campaigned on. He is inept and ineffective, unable to deliver any real results for the country.
Here’s the bottom line: Donald Trump is not a king.
Now more than ever, we need to be building our bench of bold, young progressives in state legislatures and Congress who will take our country back from this man and his rabid supporters.
We’re doing everything we can to support the next generation of leaders, but we can’t do it alone. And we’re up against the billionaires and the corporate class who are funding the MAGA movement. So we can’t afford to fall behind on our goals.
