Friends,

I hope you’re having a great week! My team and I have been hard at work, focusing on the issues that matter most and keeping you informed with the latest updates and opportunities.

This past week, I had the privilege of attending the Munich Security Conference, where global leaders gathered to address pressing international challenges. The discussions reinforced the importance of strong leadership, resilient alliances, and a clear strategy to confront emerging threats. As the world closely watches America's role in global stability, I was proud to stand up for the principles that keep our nation secure and strong.

On another note, a quick reminder that White House tours are back! If you’re a constituent of Texas’ Second Congressional District and planning a trip to D.C., my office can assist you in scheduling a tour. There’s about a three-month lead time, so please plan accordingly. Visit the Tour Request page on my website for details and to submit your request!

Sincerely,

Face the Nation

Image

Recently, I appeared on Face the Nation to discuss the EU’s role in President Trump’s negotiations on the Russia-Ukraine war. If Europe wants a meaningful voice and real influence in the outcome, EU nations must step out of their comfort zones and take a stronger role in their own defense. So far, aside from Poland and a few others, most European countries have cautiously followed the U.S. lead. However, true leverage in negotiations comes from strength, not hesitation. The EU must move beyond symbolic gestures and take decisive action to secure its future.

Piers Morgan Uncensored

Image

During a recent appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, I emphasized the need for the United States to remain vigilant in protecting the post-WWII international order, which has been critical to global stability. As we navigate the situation in Ukraine, we must stay strategic, ensuring that our actions support global stability and prioritize America’s long-term security. While standing with our allies is important, we must never lose sight of our national interests. Every decision we make should strengthen our global position and ensure that America’s priorities are at the forefront of international decisions.

Tax Filing Season is Here – What You Need to Know

The IRS has officially opened the 2025 tax filing season and is now accepting 2024 tax returns before the April 15 deadline. Taxpayers in federally declared disaster areas may have additional time to file.

  • Faster Refunds – Most refunds are issued within 21 days if filed electronically. Those eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) may receive refunds by March 3. Track refund status using “Where’s My Refund?” on the IRS’ website or the IRS2Go app.
  • Avoid Scams – Be on alert for tax scams and identity theft. The IRS never initiates contact via text, email, or social media about refunds or payments. Stay informed with the latest consumer alerts identified by the IRS.
  • Wait to File Until You Have All Documents – Ensure all income and tax documents are received before filing to avoid delays or errors.
  • Choose a Trusted Tax Professional – Avoid "ghost"  tax preparers who do not sign returns. Always verify a tax preparer’s credentials.

Health Care Provider Shortage Minimization Act

This week, my colleagues and I introduced the Health Care Provider Shortage Minimization Act (H.R. 1301) to combat the healthcare workforce shortage, particularly in rural and underserved areas. This bill ensures that locum tenens—temporary healthcare professionals who fill critical staffing gaps—can continue working as independent contractors nationwide.

In 2019, 85% of healthcare facilities depended on locum tenens to provide patient care, making it essential to preserve their role and ensure communities have reliable access to quality healthcare. I’m incredibly proud to have worked with my colleagues on this bill and will continue fighting for solutions that strengthen our healthcare system throughout my time in Congress.

In this episode of Hold These Truths, I spoke in depth with Dr. Alexander Burns about the evolution of 18th-century warfare. We discussed General Washington's battlefield tactics, the long-standing conflict between officers and common soldiers, and the early development of the American military.

Dr. Alexander Burns is an Assistant Professor of History at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. He specializes in 18th-century conflict in North America and Europe and is the author of Infantry in Battle, 1733-1783.
