Meetings Across Wisconsin 1st District

KANDU Industries in Milton, Wisconsin, has operated in Rock County for over 60 years, helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through job training, employment placement, and wraparound supports.

I visited two facilities this week that help adults with mental and physical disabilities. I saw the importance of the programs they provide for our community.

In addition to visiting KANDU, I led a request to the Trump administration asking to block a proposed rule and protect these important Wisconsin jobs. At the end of last year, the Department of Labor under President Biden took steps to eliminate the 14(c) certificate that KANDU and other Community Rehabilitation Providers (CRPs) use to operate. This proposal directly threatened the jobs of the disabled workers at KANDU.

My request urges the Trump Administration to take action to save these critical programs. The dignity of work should not be taken from them by one-size-fits-all bureaucratic regulations from Washington.

I want to thank KANDU for having me at their facility this week. I greatly appreciated the opportunity to hear from the workers there about what their jobs mean to them and their families.

Helping Individuals with Disabilities

On Tuesday, I joined Matthias Academy in Bristol to tour their facility and speak with some of their students about the unique programming being provided.

Matthias Academy was founded in 2020 to serve adults with specialized medical needs, mild to severe autism, and other disabilities that did not fit into opportunities provided at other local adult day programs. They provide a student-centered environment for adults to live, work, and socialize, building in exercise and leisure time and encouraging independence through structured activities.

If you’d like to learn more about the opportunities Matthias Academy has available, you can visit their website here.

Standing up for Wisconsin Manufacturing

The manufacturing industry in Wisconsin employs more than 480,000 individuals and provides more than $71 billion in annual economic output.

This week, I met with workers at Multi Products in Racine, SC Johnson, and Milwaukee Tool to talk about Wisconsin manufacturers' needs and the unique challenges they face competing across the globe.

Wisconsin manufacturers are among the best in the world. I'm working to make sure our manufacturers can out compete other countries, particularly China.

When Wisconsin manufacturers and workers have the opportunity to compete on the world stage, Wisconsin products will win. I will always stand up for Wisconsin manufacturers and the Wisconsin families these jobs support.

As always, feel free to contact my office if you have any questions, want to share an opinion, or are having trouble with a federal agency.
