Future Coalition is the leading organization behind progressive youth activism. Our intergenerational team is providing young people with the tools, resources, and support to power their ideas and amplify their impact around the nation.

Hey Friend,

It’s more important than ever that we take the time to learn about and honor the Black leaders who contribute so much to our country.

We continue to celebrate and uplift progressive Black leaders who are paving the way for the next generation and fighting back against Trump’s racist attacks.

And we’re thrilled to spotlight State Senator Zaynab Mohamed from Minnesota, who made history not only as the youngest woman, but also as the first Black woman elected to the State Senate!

Prior to her win, Mohamed was a political organizer, and in 2020 she saw exactly what the government could provide for its citizens: relief. After seeing the government cover healthcare costs, support small businesses, expand unemployment, and more, she began to wonder why so many people have been forced to scrape by. Given the extreme wealth gap in our country that threatens the future of our generation, she is not afraid to question authority:

As a young Black person, the murder of George Floyd by the police had a tremendous impact on her. This moment led her to question her community and become the Community Advocacy Director at the Council of American Islamic Relations - one of the largest civil rights organizations in MN. But she knew she could do more from inside the government, and was eventually elected in 2022.

In office, she’s fought to protect Minnesotans' reproductive rights by being one of the members to introduce the Protect Reproductive Options Act which protects the right to abortion by allowing individuals to make their own decisions about reproductive healthcare, and barring government interference.

Throughout her time organizing and in the State Senate, she’s consistently worked to provide the best opportunities for her community - regardless of race, religion, or paycheck. By working to protect voting rights, increase the minimum wage, invest in affordable housing, and lead tenants’ rights sessions, she has succeeded in trying to bridge the gap not only in her city but in Minnesota as a whole.

No matter what happens these next four years, we understand that diversity is the backbone of our country — that’s why we are dedicated to fighting for a more equitable country for our generation.
