Maria, a Save the Children team member, visits Darla and her mother, Daisy, at their home in central Washington. Maria helps parents build skills to support their child’s growth.
John, right now, 1 in 5 children in rural America live in poverty.
The United States has always been viewed as a land of opportunity, but for children living in rural communities, the chance to build a better life comes with major obstacles.
Insufficient access to child care and preschool programs. Teacher shortages. A lack of investment in rural communities. These challenges mean families with young children don’t often have the resources they need to give their kids a strong start.
Together, we can change that, John.
Save the Children works around the world to build opportunities for all children. We’ve opened preschools in U.S. rural communities, repaired schools in northern Syria and ensured children have access to healthy meals in Sri Lanka.
Today, we’re asking you to make a gift — that can have 10X the impact! – for children in rural America and around the world. You see, funding from grants helps support our work for millions of children worldwide. Your donation helps us secure this critical funding, which can multiply the impact of your gift — 10X!
Here are just a few recent examples of the work we’re doing in rural areas of the U.S. and other regions of the world where children need us most:
In Perry County, Kentucky, we opened a new preschool classroom in a local elementary school to help ensure kids were entering kindergarten with the skills they needed to succeed.
In Quitman County, Mississippi, we launched a summer learning program to help kids who struggle with reading. The program’s first summer helped increase the state reading test rate from 58.7% to 84%.
In the Liban Zone of Somalia, we set up a mobile health clinic to help displaced families access essential healthcare services including vaccines, physicals, and medications.
