NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
DEQ LAND QUALITY DIVISION
The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Land Quality Division (LQD), will hold an Advisory Board (AB) Meeting beginning at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 20, 2025. The meeting will be held via video conference call. The major item of discussion will be a presentation of proposed revisions to LQD Coal Chapter 12, Procedures Applicable to Surface Coal Mining Operations. The proposed revisions were drafted to recognize a specific type of reclamation bond estimate adjustment that would not be considered a bond release request. The LQD is proposing to allow for a bond reduction request based on a decrease in the volume of material required to reclaim the final cut, pit or void created at a surface mining operation. The LQD will be seeking the AB’s advice on whether the proposed rules should proceed to formal rulemaking.
