Dear John,
After a couple weeks of votes in Washington, it was great to be back home in Minnesota this week. Spending time in the community and hearing from constituents from across the political spectrum is truly the best part of my job. I’ll be back to DC next week for the three week stretch to the government funding deadline.
Here at home this week, the Burnsville community marked a heartbreaking anniversary. It’s hard to believe it’s been one year since we lost Burnsville police officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge and Burnsville firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth in a horrific act of violence.
Paul, Matthew and Adam were the best of us – public servants who put themselves in harm’s way in the name of keeping Minnesotans safe. Over the past year I’ve kept them and their loved ones in my heart every day. This has been an incredibly difficult year for the city of Burnsville, and I’m doing my part in Congress to ensure first responders get the support they need on the job.
I spent a quiet moment at the memorial at Burnsville City Hall to honor their memories. Thank you to every member of the Minnesota public safety family for the work you do to keep us safe.
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
Supporting Minnesota workers
I had the chance to catch up with the St. Paul Labor Federation in my Eagan office. So many union members are bearing the brunt of this Administration’s reckless attacks on the federal workforce, education, the post office and more. I'm doing everything I can to push back on those harmful actions and protect Minnesotans.
Creating jobs & increasing domestic manufacturing
I visited the QA1 Precision Products facility in Lakeville on Wednesday to see the work they do firsthand on the production floor. They’re one of many strong CD2 companies creating jobs in the trades, manufacturing critical products right here in Minnesota and driving new research and development.
Checking in with Minnesota farmers
I met with my bipartisan Farmers Advisory Council at King’s in Miesville this week to hear about their needs and how they’re navigating the challenges of the last several weeks. Some of them are nervous and some are downright angry with grants frozen, USDA layoffs and tariff threats.
Helping all our kids learn
On Thursday I sat down with some of the incredible folks with Minnesota Behavioral Specialists to hear about the work they’re doing to support special needs kids in our communities. As an IEP mom myself, I know firsthand about the work and care they bring to the job every day. I’ll keep working across the aisle in Congress to get more support for special education.
Behind the Scenes with Rep. Craig:
I enjoy my time at home in Minnesota more than DC for a lot of reasons – but especially because here, some of my meetings come with a beer! Stopped by B-52 Burgers and Brew in Lakeville to listen to the needs of the business community with Lakeville Chamber President Krista Jech and B-52 co-owners Mark and Brandon.
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
