Every single New Yorker deserves to be safe, and to feel safe – taking the subway to work, walking home at night, or sending their kids to school.

But right now, far too many don’t.

John, Mayor Eric Adams promised to keep New Yorkers safe – but failed.

He allowed cronyism and corruption at the highest ranks of the NYPD, damaging trust and weakening morale. He's cut funding time and again for the critical city programs that keep our neighborhoods stable.

New Yorkers want accountability – for people who break the law and hurt their neighbors, for officers who use excessive force, for top brass who abuse their positions, and for elected officials who don't deliver on their promises.

That’s why yesterday, I presented the most comprehensive plan for public safety of any candidate in the race for NYC Mayor. It will restore leadership, trust, and accountability.

Under the Lander administration, we'll have stronger accountability, less gun crime, safer subways, vibrant neighborhoods, and a New York City that's safer for all.

Here are some key elements of my public safety plan:

* Keep Jessica Tisch as NYPD commissioner: I've worked with Jessica Tisch over the past decade at the NYPD and at the Department of Sanitation, and I've seen her relentless push to deliver outcomes and demand accountability after years of mismanagement and corruption in Eric Adams’ NYPD.
* Confront the staffing crisis at the NYPD: I’ll improve recruitment and retention, and cut down on the NYPD’s massive amounts of overtime spending.
* Empower the NYPD to focus on solving gun crimes: I’ll help scale up successful programs from DA Bragg and DA Gonzalez that prioritize prosecutions of gun traffickers and individuals driving violence, so we can get those guns off the streets.
* Invest in safe neighborhoods: I can increase evidence-based, community-led strategies, like ensuring summer jobs to keep young people off the street.
* Combat hate crimes and violence: I'll partner with the Citizens Crime Commission to expand their DEP program, and enhance anti-hate education for our young people.
* Stop retail theft: To unlock the toothpaste and other items that make quick drugstore trips take forever, I’ll launch a simple, one-stop platform for retail stores to streamline reporting, investigating, and preventing shoplifting.
* End street homelessness for people with serious mental illness: Using a Housing First approach, we’ll connect homeless New Yorkers directly to stable housing and the wraparound services they need.

John, the bottom line is this: a safer New York City is possible and I've spent my whole career fighting for fairness, for transparency, and for stronger communities.

As Mayor, I'll bring that same commitment to every decision, to every appointment, to every policy so our streets, subways, and communities can be both safe and prosperous.

Thank you,

Brad
