Representative Adriano Espaillat Reintroduces Harlem Renaissance Resolution Honoring Impact of Harlem to American History

WASHINGTON, DC -- This week, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) reintroduced his congressional resolution honoring the legacy of the Harlem Renaissance, a cultural, social, and political movement in American history.

“The Harlem Renaissance radically redefined the Black experience and continues to influence future generations of artists, writers, and intellectuals, creating indelible impacts on American culture,” said Rep. Espaillat. "The Harlem Renaissance is one such example and was a cultural movement that radically redefined the Black experience in New York City that had a resounding affect across the United States. I am proud to reintroduce this congressional resolution each year to recognize, promote, and preserve the rich history, legacy, and cultural impact of Harlem, here at home, to our nation, and around the world."

Representative Espaillat is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and his congressional district includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and the north-west Bronx. First elected to Congress in 2016, Representative Espaillat is serving his fifth term in Congress. Representative Espaillat currently serves as a member of the influential U.S. House Committee on Appropriations responsible for funding the federal government’s vital activities and serves as Ranking Member of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee of the committee during the 119th Congress.
