** St. Louis area Democrat casts controversial vote.
------------------------------------------------------------
Last week Sen. Karla May, who represents Senate District 4 cast a vote against an amendment to remove a statutory prohibition on same sex marriage.
The amendment offered by Sen. Stephen Webber would have done away with the state law nullified by the Supreme Court in 2015. A number of Democrats denounced Mays vote.

** House Republicans seek to overturn will of the voters.
------------------------------------------------------------
A number of House Republicans have introduced legislation aimed at limiting or completely overturning the provisions of Prop A ([link removed]) . This ballot measure passed by nearly 58% of the vote. The voters have spoken, they want to see their friends, neighbors, and other Missourians to be paid better! Legislation filed varies from applying exemptions to employees under 20 years old (HB 758 ([link removed]) ) to completely overturning the proposition (HB 715 ([link removed]) ). This is a clear attack on Democracy, in the interest of capitalism.

** Abortion Access is back!
------------------------------------------------------------
Earlier this month Jackson County Circuit Judge Jerri Zhang issued an order overturning licensing requirements for abortion facilities. Judge Zhang found these requirements to be discriminatory as they only applied to abortion providers. “The Court finds the facility licensing requirement is facially discriminatory because it does not treat services provided in abortion facilities the same as other types of similarly situated health care, including miscarriage care,” Zhang wrote in the order ([link removed]) .

** Republicans pass initial approval for State takeover.
------------------------------------------------------------
Jefferson City, MO - Republicans in both the Senate and the House have worked to advance legislation to place the St. Louis Police Department under state control. This would mean overturning the statewide decision voted on by Missourians in 2013. The main reason cited by supporters of this change, is "improving public safety." A claim they've failed to back with any additional data or reasoning. Public safety is an issue top of mind to many St. Louisans and our visitors, and the data shows an improvement in crime citywide. However, public safety comes down to perception of safety and this is what citizens are lacking.
