Elon Musk recently argued that "democracy" is about giving Donald Trump the power to do whatever he wants. This dangerous rhetoric shows just how far extremists are willing to go to undermine our democratic institutions.

As a Member of Congress and former CIA officer, I have taken an oath multiple times to protect and defend the Constitution, and I’ve seen firsthand how fragile democracy is—especially when extremists are undermining our institutions and sowing distrust.

That’s why electing Democratic Governors has never been more important, especially here in the South. Extremists in Washington are threatening our fundamental freedoms and our democracy, and Governor's offices are our first line of defense.

If I have the honor of being elected your Governor, I will work tirelessly to make sure that no one, not Trump, not Musk, nor anyone else, has the unchecked power to erode the freedoms we hold dear. Our democracy is fragile, and I won’t be afraid to stand up for what’s right.
