Bella’s excitement builds as a white van rolls to a stop in her rural community in South Carolina.
But this isn’t an ordinary van, John. It’s a classroom.
Our mobile classroom is filled with activities and toys to spark creativity and learning: a mini library, a play kitchen, colorful mats, magnetic letterboards and a cooler filled with healthy snacks. Just like our work supporting kids worldwide, our education programs in rural America are tailored to meet children’s unique needs.

For many families in this community, it’s the only reliable source of stimulating and educational opportunities for young children. In rural areas, childcare options are scarce. If you find one, the wait lists are long and the costs are high.
Many rural communities also lack public libraries and playgrounds. Without them, families miss out on reading circles, free access to books and spaces where children can play and interact with other kids.
Our work in rural America is just one way Save the Children is improving the lives of children growing up in conflict, disaster and poverty in the U.S. and across the globe.
Bella is working on her fine motor skills by dropping clothespins into a bucket outside of the mobile classroom as her mother, Telya, watches.
Here’s the difference our programs made for one family in South Carolina:
“Save the Children has provided my daughter and myself with someone that I can rely on to help with furthering her education,” said Telya, mother to 2-year-old Bella. “They've provided me and her with books, and they've also provided me with quality time that I could look forward to sharing with her and learning and just watching her become a bright toddler.”
Like Telya, every parent wants to help their child learn and succeed. With your support, we can bring programs to families around the world that help their children reach their full potential. Multiply the impact of your gift now.>>
