Team — Multiple voting rights bills out of one of Groundwork’s target regions could drastically impact the future of our elections.
Lawmakers in Mississippi and Oklahoma are pushing for changes in early voting, and history shows what happens in these states matters.
For example, the Supreme Court’s decision on Shelby County v. Holder — a case originating from Alabama, one of our target states — gutted key provisions in the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
This opened the floodgates for GOP lawmakers to pass waves of restrictive voting laws, resulting in 31 states having passed 103 restrictive voting laws since the decision — many of which target Black and minority voters.
That’s why progressive movements in these states are so critical.
Activists and organizers on the frontlines of our fight for democracy are ready to push back against unjust voting laws and ensure everyone can cast their vote.
Groundwork is getting resources into the right hands across the Plains, the Deep South, and Appalachia. Can you fuel this work by pitching in before our end-of-month fundraising deadline? [[link removed]]
