We’ve been talking a lot about the House vote at approximately 6 pm ET today on a right-wing budget that cuts $880 billion from Medicaid. But it’s not just Medicaid that’s under attack by members of Congress and the Trump administration:

In an interview last week with Fox News, Donald Trump’s Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said out loud that the administration is coming for our earned benefits:

“We have almost $4 trillion of entitlements, and no one’s ever looked at it before. You know Social Security is wrong, you know Medicaid and Medicare are wrong. So [Elon]’s gonna cut a trillion and we’re gonna get rid of all these tax scams that hammer against America and we’re gonna raise a trillion dollars of revenue.”¹

We’ve known all along that supposed promises by Trump to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid weren’t worth the campaign literature they were printed on. But now his administration is admitting they were outright lies. Congress can still stop these cuts.

Send a message to your senators and representative today demanding they pledge to not cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

This is a tale as old as time. During campaign season, politicians promise to protect our earned benefits because they know they are both popular and successful in keeping seniors out of poverty and addressing the healthcare of both seniors and low-income families in their congressional districts. But then they come back to Washington, DC and attempt to cut our earned benefits behind closed doors.

They point to fiscal commissions, or in this case Elon Musk’s so-called “Department of Government Efficiency”, which is spreading misinformation about our earned benefits. They want to reduce support for these popular programs, and then when they cut them, claim they’re reducing “fraud.”

The true fraud is elected officials who claim to be champions of our earned benefits, who then turn around and sell out their constituents in order to pass more tax cuts for their wealthy campaign contributors.

Send a message to your senators and representative today urging them to take the pledge to never cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid.

Together, we have beat back these attacks before. And together, we must do it again.
